The Pocket
Oracle (2002 -
)
In the beginning, in the darkness,
is the word. The creator behind the scenes struggles with the
material, but each attempt is rejected. The pile of paper grows. Out
of the paper, three lovable creatures - each in their own way
incomplete - appear. They discover each other, and they discover the
big book. A book full of rules - on the art of becoming a complete
person.
With the oracle's wisdom in
their pockets, they attack the problem of developing themselves -
but with blinders on. Bits of text appear in the landscape, and they
must each relate to them. But rules can be interpreted in different
ways, and this leads to frustration, conflict, and isolation. Their
hunt for a philosopher's stone leads them to an
entire quarry. When it rains with words of wisdom as books from
the sky, they must choose among them together. First then, with each
others' help, will they be able to approach completeness.
Using masks, music, computer projections, humor
and warmth, we fantasize on the eternally clumsy human search
through existence - without uttering a word.
